The Community Service Team of Universitas Medan Area, chaired by Dr. Sayuti Rahman, ST, M.Kom, implemented an agricultural modernization program in Lubuk Cuik Village. The program aims to help local chili farmers increase productivity and efficiency by utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology. One of the innovations implemented is a smart camera that is able to classify chili leaf diseases automatically.
In this activity, the team provided training to farmers on the use of IoT devices that have been equipped with sensors and smart cameras. The camera serves to monitor the condition of chili plants in real-time and detect early symptoms of disease on the leaves. The information collected is then processed by the system to provide treatment recommendations, such as the use of appropriate pesticides. This technology not only reduces the risk of crop failure, but also helps farmers optimize the use of chemicals more efficiently.
The response from the farming community in Lubuk Cuik Village was very positive. They feel helped by technology that makes it easier to monitor crops and make quick decisions.
Dr. Sayuti Rahman said that the program will continue with intensive mentoring to ensure successful implementation. It is hoped that the application of smart farming can become a sustainable model of modern agriculture, while improving the welfare of farmers in the village.
