The campus of UMA, according to the guests and visitors who come for kinds of matters, does indeed exude an atmosphere of a beautiful, green, clean and convenient environment. It’s quite adequate and wholesome to support student learning activities.
However are the facilities and infrastructure providing convenience optimally operated? The Editor-in-Chief of Intelektual Tabloid, Mr. Roem, tried to discuss this matter with the Vice Rector for Innovation, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Dr. Rizkan Zulyadi, SH, MH. Based on the conversation, Bang Rizkan, as he is usually called, enthusiastically said that he saw that this beautiful and green environment had not been optimally used by students to adapt to nature. “Students can totally adapt to the green campus nature since all facilities are available. When they feel tired and bored, they can relieve themselves by seeing various types of plants in the campus forest park of UMA. They can enjoy the breeze while sitting on the bench as well as look at the agile movements of kinds of animals in the campus forest park. When he was asked what to do to make this beautiful campus environment can be utilized optimally, the husband of Doctor Ira Aliza Siregar, Sp. AK. M.Kes, who is on duty at Sipirok Hospital, and also the Director of Inanta Sipirok Hospital, explained that he had educated the entire UMA academic community in each faculty, both lecturers and staff to raise the awareness of students toward the existence of the campus forest park and the beautiful and convenient campus environment. “Students must always be encouraged to raise their awareness toward the existence of this green environment,” said Bang Rizkan. He added that the understanding of the existence of UMA as a campus that achieved a GreenMetric World University Ranking certificate must be continuously improved. “I hope it is not only the ranking and certificate that matter, but also the awareness of students concerning the existence of their campus as the center of learning activities and utilize this convenient infrastructure not only for rejuvenating but also for adapting to nature as well as to increasing knowledge about things related to nature and environment”, he said firmly while continuing the conversation enthusiastically.
The vice rector whose hobby is sports, is the father of 4 children. His first son, is a doctor like his mother, namely Doctor Yudha Putra Pratama, and is currently following a specialist doctor program. The second one is a daughter called Githa Dara Khairunnisa who is currently in the 6th semester of Medical School of UMSU. While the third one is Habibi Muffasa, a student of Matauli High School, Sibolga, and the youngest one is Izzaia Zulzaini Alris, the students of Al Azhar Al Syarif Islamic boarding school, Kuala Namu.
At the end of the conversation, the third vice rector told how Mr. Ridho and Ms. Dilla, the guests of UMA from KARIRMU, who came from Java Island, admitted that when they came into the campus area, they felt a different atmosphere. Those who became the speakers at the event of Persiapan Memasuki Dunia Kerja (PMDK) held by UMA for prospective graduates said that when they visited other universities, they were greeted by a solid concrete building with various compliment to decorate the building such as lightning rods and antennas as well as various iron towers with certain functions. What makes UMA different from other universities is the beautiful and cozy atmosphere of the campus area. The campus forest park which is surrounded by big trees completed with the movements and sounds animals create a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The benches available seem to invite us to enjoy and feel the atmosphere of a different environment that makes us feel cozy while doing activities.
Finally, Bang Rizkan emphasized that although the Greenmertric Ranking is an important achievement for UMA, but it is way more important to make the entire UMA academic community, especially students to be aware of and take advantage of all these beautiful, clean, healthy, and convenient environmental facilities to the fullest. Thus, we will be proud of being the part of the big family of UMA.
