University of Medan Area has made various efforts to demonstrate its commitment to environmental management. One of the efforts taken is to implement a paperless program which is focused on information systems that are used to support the activities of UMA academic administration. These efforts are carried out to minimize the use of paper which has negative impact to the environment.
The implementation of paperless program can be seen in the information system related to student academic administration activities. One of them is the information system for the admission of new students by online. This system aims at improving the quality of service to the new students, starting from the registration of new students, the implementation of selection test, and the report of the number of the new students. This system can be accessed on http://pmb.uma.ac.id.
Furthermore, there is also University of Medan Area Portal which provides various information services about UMA which can be accessed on http://uma.ac.id. In addition, there is also an academic information system to support the implementation of teaching and learning in classrooms and laboratories which consists of 2 types, namely: Academic Online Campus (AOC) service system for lecturers and students which can be accessed on http://aoc.uma.ac.id and the Online Attendance System which is used to monitor the learning activities by online and real time by the leaders of each study program and institution. For the information services to support the learning process, such as scientific papers in the form of student theses for each faculty and postgraduate programs can be saved and accessed on the http://repository.uma.ac.id which has been integrated with Open DOAR, Open ROAR, One Search. Meanwhile for the online information services of UMA library can be accessed on the http://perpibrary.uma.ac.id. To support the correspondence administration activities, UMA has developed a paperless-based correspondence information system, namely
the Siemens application which is used to manage the administration of correspondence such as incoming and outgoing letters, disposition of incoming and outgoing letters, agenda of incoming and outgoing letters, archives of incoming and outgoing letters, retention of letters and other supporting documents.
Meanwhile for financial management, UMA has developed a Student Financial Information System which functions to regulate and record the entire business process of student financial transaction activities. This information system consists of 2 parts, namely Student Financial Administration which is used as a validation process of financial data rocessing and payment of student tuition fees, and Virtual Account Administration, as an alternative that matches parties such as BRI, Mandiri and BNI by utilizing virtual account products that will used for tuition payments by students In addition, to support the improvement of service quality, UMA has 2 systems related to employee information namely UMA Employee Information System that can be accessed on the https://sikuma.uma.ac.id/ and the Online Attendance System which functions to process data and to show the level of discipline of employees based on their attendance rate.
UMA also has an inventory information system used for the management of facilities and infrastructure around UMA area starting from the demand for goods from faculties or other work units in need, the institution procuring goods, data collection of new goods and distribution of goods to each faculty and other work units etc. This inventory system can be accessed on the http://sitori.uma.ac.id. To support paperless-based research administration and community service (PKM) activities, UMA has a research information system and dedication to DIYA UMA funding
designed in LIPAN application which can be accessed on the http://lipan.uma.ac.id. UMA also has an Open Journal System (OJS) service managed by OJS UMA and assisted by the OJS admin in each study program. This OJS service is used for lecturers who will publish.
Scientific journals as a result of research in accordance with the fields of science that are internal to UMA and can be accessed on the http://ojs.uma.ac.id. Furthermore, UMA also has an alumni information system designed to collect alumni or UMA graduates both undergraduate and postgraduate alumni. This system contains alumni data, tracer study and Career and Entrepreneurship Centre (PKK). This system is used to obtain feedback from alumni needed by universities in an effort toward the improvement and the development of education quality and education system. Last but not least, UMA also has an internal quality assurance information system (SMPI) which can be accessed on http://spmi.uma.ac.id. SPMI UMA is an application developed to monitor internal quality assurance in accordance with higher education standards and standards set by Higher Education.
By the existence of this program, University of Medan Area believes that any kinds of information can be useful not only for the UMA academic community in particular but also for the wider community outside UMA area. All activities carried out are aimed at improving information services effectively and efficiently by minimizing paper use.
