The Biology Faculty of University of Medan Area continues to strive for the environmental management by utilizing waste around the environment. One of the efforts dealing with waste management is producing things made from waste, i.e. the making of Oshibana.
Oshibana is the art of arranging or decorating dried flowers or leaves by pressing without having to damage or fade away the original dyes. Oshibana comes from the Japanese language, i.e.‘oshi’ which means pressed and dan ‘bana’ which means flower. The process of making Oshibana is almost the same as the making of herbarium (dried plants) in Biology. That’s why Oshibana is a combination of biology and art.
Oshibana products themselves have been successfully produced and made as businesses by the students of Biology Faculty of UMA to increase their income.
