Durian is a native plant of wet tropical climate area, such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. In Indonesia, North Sumatra is the prime province in producing durian. Through the Faculty of Biology, University Medan Area is inventing a breakthrough in processing of durian leather waste. The durian leather is successfully transformed into a material like cotton and can be used as an alternative pillow filler. Rosliana Lubis as the inventor stated that a total of 50 durian is able to producing 1 kilogram cotton. The process starts with scraping the leather then boiled in water for 30 minutes. Then, the additional materials were added into the container, namely soap as the replacement of NaOH compound and detergent. After that, the materials were washed and dried so can be used to filling pillows and bolsters. The experiments is build upon to the society to exploit the durian leather waste into cotton materials so can reduce waste in North Sumatra.
